Introduction

The predecessor of the college was the Optoelectronics Technology Department established in 2001. In 2009, it was renamed the College of Optoelectronic Technology. The college is dedicated to creating talent training grounds for physical electronics, optoelectronics and microelectronics, optoelectronic information technology, new materials and new energy, as well as exemplary university physics teaching and experimental platforms. The college is based in Sichuan and faces the whole country. It trains application-oriented senior engineering and technical talents who are committed to local economic construction and social development, have excellent moral character, solid foundation, and strong innovation and practical ability.

The College currently has more than 1,200 undergraduate students and four undergraduate majors, namely Electronic Science and Technology, Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering, Applied Physics, and Material Physics. The College currently has a master's degree in first-level disciplines - electronic science and technology, two masters in two secondary disciplines - optoelectronic integration technology and systems, communications and information systems, and a professional master's degree - electronics and communications engineering. Electronic Science and Technology is a state-level specialty. It has been selected as the “Outstanding Engineer Education Training Program” of the Ministry of Education of China. This major is the first batch of enrollment plan in Sichuan Province. Optoelectronic Information Science and Engineering is Sichuan Province’s “Excellent Engineer Education Training Program”, also is the first batch of enrollment plan in Sichuan Province.

The college has a professional teacher team with a reasonable structure, a high level of teaching and research. There are 78 faculty and staff members, including 65 full-time teachers; 33 teachers with professional titles, accounting for 50%. 56 teachers with a master's or doctor's degree, accounting for 86% (PhD 38, Master 18). Among the faculty, there is 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (double-employed), 1 National outstanding young and middle-aged experts, 1 Sichuan Province 1000-person plan expert, 2 Sichuan excellent experts with outstanding contributions and 3 candidates for Sichuan academic and technical leaders.

The college has 1 Sichuan provincial university key laboratory of “information materials and device applications”, 1 Sichuan University Innovation Team of “Flat Imaging and Display Technology”, and 2 joint city laboratories of Chengdu focus on light sensing and photoelectronic integration, laser technology and optic communications, optoelectronic information processing, optoelectronic devices, electronic information materials and components, microwave materials and devices, and new energy technologies. In recent years, the college has presided over and participated in more than 80 national and provincial-level research projects, and has reached more than 15 million yuan in funds. Moreover, more than 400 papers collected by SCI and EI had been published.

The college graduates can engage in related R&D and management in areas such as optoelectronics, microelectronics, integrated circuits, measurement and control technology, new energy and new materials. Since its establishment, the College has delivered more than 3,000 professional and technical talents to the society. With their solid professional knowledge and skills, they are welcomed by employers and have made tremendous contributions to the country's economic construction and social development.
